Animal Bit or Bite, Singapore

By Dhani Jones on April 6, 2009 10:03 AM | Permalink | 38 Comments

I suppose there is a saying in life that states ... Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.  Well, welcome to the world of Dhani Jones.  I've been fooled time and time again.  The producers bring me to these incredible countries, Switzerland, Thailand, Spain and now Singapore to try all of these amazing sports and the most interesting thing turns out to be the animals, go figure.  What was I thinking, making a reality, non-scripted television would just be so simple -- train for the sport, talk to some people and it would be perfect.  Yeah right, perfection is hidden pirates booty and I suppose I'm the sap that's always looking for it.

So, Singapore, not necessarily one of my favorite places in the world, but an interesting place that was an experience. This country was so clean I actually ate off of the ground and thought nothing of it. I left food overnight on the balcony and I didn't have a bird touch it.  I saw dirt trucks leave a worksite and not drop or drag dirt from the premise.  Buses were pristine and cars were just out of the wash.  I guess that's what happens when it's illegal to spit or spit out your chewed gum on the street, kill daddy longlegs or exhibit any form of creativity (I might have made a couple of those up). Now they're getting better but seriously that's how it is. Work, work, work... Creativity didn't even exist for years since the countries inception ( ok, I exaggerate a bit, a lot).

Let me get to the animal bit, and the point of my blog, shall I.  Yes, animal bit or bite is what I shall call it.  Fish Foot Therapy, the act of cleaning ones feet with a few hundred, hungry fish finding their way into the nooks and cranny's.  Feel good fish or just plain uncomfortable?  Well, considering that off camera they had to convince me by politely dangling some time off, I'd say it was pretty uncomfortable.  The face I made, after time of coaxing and convincing that I had to do it, that I must because it will make excellent television (where did this theory of excellent TV enter... see fall off horse), was priceless.  Even looking back at the expression I was floored.  It couldn't have been that bad, but I'll tell you like this, I'll never do it again ...Okay, maybe just once more.

I have to give props to the fish for putting on there game face and really getting in there.  Athlete's feet are the most decrepit, old and worn out things in the industry.  But mine are nice :) ...now...lol

    Hey Dhani,

Ok tonight's show and the boxing are my favorites so far. The fish scene was very good tv. I liked the temple blessing scene also. Everyone was nice. That's always better. You looked like you had a great time. Those fish are used to help people with bad skin conditions too right? It was great how you looked like you were going to fall out after every stroking exercise in the water. You did not try to hide being wore out abite. In the end though you STOKED IT BABY!!!!! Can't wait till next episode. Take care! CK =)

    Dhani,
Thanks for your "try anything" spirit!! The durian fruit was taking it to the limit, the smell alone... Look forward to the next show. Keep your head to the sky.

    Hi Dhani:

My wife and I are from Singapore and we loved the dragonboat show! We're based in Tempe, AZ right now so it was a delight to see Bedok Reservoir again (it's where I grew up and where my folks still live in an apartment directly overlooking it)! The fish therapy segment was hilarious, as was the scene of you kissing the ground. Hope you enjoyed the local beer, if not the durian! :) W.

OMG, Dahani is cute but he is so bloody rude when it comes to the customes of the country he visits. He annoys me when they ask him to try the food and he tells them to their face that their food is nasty...soooo rude.

    Dhani,

You are killing me with that 1000 watts smile!!! LOL! I loved this episode. I had a few scences that I like. The first one was you eating the frog legs. LOL!!! You were VERY verbal about the taste of them. The restaurant owners/workers looked liked they wanted to jump on you. LOL!!! The other one is with the fish at the spa. LOL!!! OMG. I couldn't have done that. It didn't looked to uncomfortable, but the swarm of fish would have freaked me out. Oh and your facial expressions...priceless. OMG I was laughing so hard. You had me in tears. You're a trip!!! Last but not least, the temple scene. I could tell that you were in awe of the ceremonies and finding out the true meaning of your name. Your name fits you!!!

Take care and I'll be watching more episodes.

    Thea

I'm a huge fan! This is the best show on TV right now. You take us places some of us can only dream of. And then you write a poem about each episode. I applaud you for a show well done. The missing scene videos are hilarious. Yes, you and the show deserve an Emmy. Looking forward to the next episode. Keep us laughing Dhani!

As a long time NFL fan and knowing you from previous interviews, I had to make sure I watch your show because of your talents (ie: piano) and great personality. What I really enjoy is the fact that you admit that some aspects of the sports your trying are tougher than football. It's awesome to see an athlete that we see as superheroes not only struggle and in some cases fail but show what your really made of and never give up! Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching your show every weekend!

I simply want to say that I enjoy your show. Dhani you are so fine. As an African American woman I love watching you do your thing. I am a traveler too. I am going to India for two months this summer. You should join me. Consider this an invitation. Seriously. I am traveling the whole country. I am a full time high school literature teacher and a former journalist. I would make for a great travel partner. I should also mention that I am a fearless budget traveler.

I love your show. It is enjoyable to watch you travel, and show the rest of us what the world looks like to you!can you please tell me what Dhani means? I was unable to watch the full episode that you found the meaning of your neam. My husband and I are picking out names for a child.

$22,800.00 – (GINSENG ROOT) – I really, really believe you should have purchased and used the GINSENG ROOT you’re stroke would have been unparalleled to none. You would have stroked them out of the water that’s why the SINGAPOREAN time was 8 seconds ahead of everyone else and that’s why they where the victor! ENDURANCE ain’t no joke it seems like the lungs just say no more, NO MORE!

SHOTS! (not tequila shots) how many SHOTS have you had to travel abroad to the different countries.? The show was great especially when you where getting your DUB C dance own on the beautiful floor. I have eaten FROG LEGS before they do taste like chicken but instead of chicken NO! Stop from starving YES!

My ultimate destination spot “SPAIN” for the villas, handmade leather shoes and the MEN!

I will continue to watch and send a lil’ comment the show is the BOMB from a viewer not a fan.

    Dhani,
You know all you had to do is ask Andrew Zimmern about that fruit you ate. He hated it also. I love his show. He will eat anything. I love him, he's my fwiend =). That's right FWIEND!!!! He guest appeared on Adam's show MAN vs. FOOD. Maybe one day when you are eating something you just can't handle, he will show up and help you with it. He says if it looks good eat it, but he eats it if it looks bad. Just anything will go in his mouth. He does not EVEN care. LOVE IT! Well just wanted to let you know to consult your other network hosts for help with the bizarre foods. Take care Dhani. CK

HAVE ANOTHER GREAT SEASON. PSST THE CHICK WHO GOES TO THE BBEACHES AIN'T HALF AS INTERESTING THAN YOU.
